SHORTENING OF CALL SIGNS

When establishing radio contact whole call sign must be used. Shortened call sign may be used only after establishing radio contact and in case of that there is no possibility of confusion. Aircraft may use shortened call sign only if it was called by ground station first.

When contact is established it is possible to communicate without using call signs.

To prevent possible confusions when any clearance is transmitted to any aircraft pilot of relevant aircraft and controller when reading back clearance must add call sign.

Types of call signs and its shortening:

  1. first and at least two letters of call sign ( identification of type or manufacturer may be used instead of first letter):
    OK-JUU 49, N13CZ, Cessna OK-FKL
  2. RTF indentification of operator of aircraft an at least two letters of call sign CSA OK-WAB
  3. at type of call sign „ operator + identification of flight“ shortening cannot be applied CSA 962
